Indian Super League side FC Goa yesterday announced that unheralded Spaniard Sergio Lobera would replace Brazilian legend Zico as their new head coach.
The ISL team said that 40-year-old Lobera, who recently coached Moroccan side Moghreb Tetouan, had signed a two-year deal and would take up his role in July.
"I see FC Goa as the ideal step in my career and hope to achieve the best results for the club," Lobera said in the club's press release.
"I'm convinced that the club is ideally placed to compete in not just the ISL but across the youth level as well. "I'm keen to play my part in helping the club work towards a unified playing philosophy, which will extend beyond the realms of the club to all the young footballers in Goa who are keen to take up the game," Lobera added.
In 2012 Lobera was briefly an assistant to the late Tito Vilanova at Spanish giants Barcelona before leaving to take charge of La Liga team Las Palmas from 2012 to 2014.
Zico was head coach of Goa for the ISL's first three seasons before leaving at the end of the last campaign.
FC Goa reached the final in of the 2015 edition.
