Manchester City put on a fair display of football and only needed a single goal to help the match end in a draw. City would have then cruised into the finals on account of an away goal.
But Real Madrid's Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo proved to much for the English side.
The single goal that ended in a 1-0 win was struck by Gareth Bale, but not before a slight deflection from Fernando.
Real Madrid will now face Spanish rivals Atletico in a Madrid derby Champions League final for the second time in three years.
