Antonio Conte took over Chelsea in the summer amid chaos and revolt within the club. The defending champions had managed to end the 2015-16 Premier League season with a 10th place finish following a tumultuous season under former manager Jose Mourinho.
The 47-year-old had a task at hand of turning around the Blues fortunes. Despite winning three consecutive league titles with Italian club Juventus and leading Italy to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, there was a sense of apprehension among fans and experts over the hiring of Conte.
Chelsea’s early form came as a worry with a home defeat to Liverpool (1-2) and a hammering at the hands of local rivals Arsenal (0-3). It seemed Conte — with no Premier League experience— might be the first manager to be sacked as the season unfolded.
But four months into his first season in English football, Conte’s team have already notched up 12 consecutive wins to set a club record. The former manager of Italian clubs Bari and Siena, has not only led the Blues to the top of the table, but also managed to win over the fans, who were still reeling from the sacking of their favourite Mourinho.
Serial winner Conte has managed to transform Chelsea into a winning machine and in the process guided them to a new high in 2016.
Chelsea now look solid in defence and in attack, they look threatening with the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and and summer-signing N’Golo Kante pounding the oppositions goal. Conte, going forward, will surely aim to bring the Premier League title to Stamford Bridge and make 2017 a year to remember for the Blues.
