Born on October 17, 1970, Anil Kumble is a former Indian cricketer and a former captain of Team India Tests and ODIs, who played Tests and ODIs for 18 years.

A right-arm leg spin (leg break googly) bowler, Anil took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker of all time (after Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne).

Unlike his other contemporaries in the game, Anil Kumble did not turn the ball much, however, his strength was in his bounce, pace and accuracy.
Anil Kumble was born into a kannadiga family in Bengaluru, Karnataka to Krishna Swamy and Saroja who hail from kasaragod. Anil Kumble has a brother named Dinesh Kumble.
Anil Kumble's completed his primary school in Holy Saint English School. He then began to play cricket on the streets of Bengaluru and even joined a club named 'Young Cricketers' at the age of 13.
At age 19, Anil Kumble made his first-class debut. He went on to play 244 matches taking an astonishing 1,136 wickets and scoring 5,572 runs. His best bowling is 10/74 and top score 154*.

Anil Kumble is married to Chethana Kumble, and has two children son Mayas Kumble and daughters Svasti Kumble and Aaruni Kumble.
Anil Kumble made his ODI debut in April 1990. He went on to play 271 matches taking 337 wickets and scored 938 runs. His best bowling figures are 6/12.
During the 1996 World Cup, Anil Kumble was the most successful bowler of the tournament with 15 wickets to his name.

Anil Kumble was selected as the Cricketer of the Year in 1993 in Indian Cricket, and one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year later on in 1996.
Anil Kumble completed his pre-university college education from National College Basavanagudi. Kumble graduated B.E from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering (RVCE) in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 92.

Anil Kumble is nicknamed 'Jumbo' not only because of his deliveries, for a spinner, are 'as fast as a jumbo jet', but also because Anil Kumble's feet are quite big or 'Jumbo' as observed by his teammates.

Apart from being the third-highest wicket-taker ever in Test cricket with 619 wickets. Anil Kumble is also only the second bowler in the world to take all 10 wickets in an innings. Anil Kumble achieved this feat against Pakistan in 1999, Kumble dismissed all ten batsmen, joining Englands Jim Laker as the only players to achieve this milestone. India went on to win that Test match against Pakistan by 212 runs.
