Vidyadhar Paradkar
Renowned coach Vidyadhar Paradkar, who helped several cricketers including India stars Ajinkya Rahane and Zaheer Khan, passed away at his Lamington Road residence on Sunday. He was 77.

Former Mumbai and Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Pravin Tambe reckoned Paradkar’s guidance was a turning point in his cricketing career. A film was made on Tambe’s extraordinary life in 2022.

“Earlier, my run-up was the traditional type, but Vidya sir guided me to come straighter. He also told me to cock my wrist while bowling and this helped me immensely. I learnt a lot from him—fight to win and never give up. His role was crucial in improving the performance of both Orient Shipping teams,” Tambe told mid-day on Sunday.
Paradkar showcased fighting spirit while trying to overcome his ill health. “He was so passionate about cricket that he used to coach cricketers despite his health issues. Till his last breath he was helping cricketers improve and was searching for new talent.
