India head coach Rahul Dravid came out in support of Shubman Gill, who is enduring a lean trot. “I think he’s working really hard. Last season, he got a couple of nice hundreds for us. I’m hoping that during the course of this series, he has some big performances."

Young Gill has scored only 150 in his last five Tests.

Meanwhile, the coach pointed out that his openers (Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal) would continue to play their natural game. “By nature, most of our players are attacking players. I don’t think we are going out there to try and be ultra attacking. We look to play what’s in front of us, what the situation demands. One of the things I do believe is allowing people to be comfortable in the way that they want to play. They are going to be judged by the results they produce. So, they’ve got to find a way to play and work around that. We’ll just respond to what comes in front of us, but by nature I don’t see any of my batsmen as people who will look to take a backward step or be defensive in any case,” said Dravid.
