Roger Binny has been appointed as 36th President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His appointment was announced at the BCCI AGM in Mumbai.


Roger Binny is a former Indian cricket team star player and also the member of 1983 world cup winning team. Binny, was the Karnataka State Cricket Association President and will now leave his position in the state body. The medium pacer was one of the highest wicket taker in 1983 world cup .He took 18 wickets, highest of that tournament.


The 67-year-old Binny has had a brilliant career. He played 27 Test matches and bagged 47 wickets between 1979 and 1987. While featuring in 72 ODIs between 1980 and 1987, Binny’s biggest hour of glory was the 1983 World Cup, where he claimed 18 wickets in eight outings.


In the 1985 World Series Cricket Championship in Australia, he was the leading wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets. After retiring from cricket, he coached the India U-19 team which went on to win the World Cup title in 2000. The team was led by Mohammad Kaif.

The meeting held in the Taj hotel, Mumbai today morning was attended by the senior members of the BCCI board. 

Binny has served as member of senior selection committee in the past when Sandeep Patil was the chairman. Whenever his son Stuart Binny's name came up for discussion for selection in the Indian team, he would withdraw himself from the proceedings.

"Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position," the BCCI source said.
