Bhuvneshwar Kumar pens emotional farewell note for SRH

After joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar wrote an emotional farewell note for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). RCB shelved out big names to acquire the services of Bhuvneshwar Kumar during the concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction. Debuting in 2011 in the IPL, Bhuvneshwar Kumar played 176 matches and scalped 181 wickets. In IPL 2024, the speedster featured in 16 matches and claimed 11 wickets. Taking to his official social media handle, Bhuvneshwar said that after 'incredible' 11 years with the Hyderabad-based franchise, it is time for him to say goodbye to them. He praised the fans and said that their support has been constant. Mumbai Indians (MI) showed immediate interest followed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). It was a proper bidding war for Bhuvneshwar, with franchises willing to break the bank for his services. LSG raised the bid to Rs 10 crore, which made MI back out. It seemed the deal was done and dusted, but RCB came right at the end to acquire the seasoned quick for a price tag of Rs 10.75 crore. Kane Williamson (Pic: X/@ICC)

Williamson scores 93 and New Zealand 319-8 on day one of 1st test against ENG

Kane Williamson made a comeback in the New Zealand team and smashed 93 runs on the first day of the first Test match against England. At stumps on day one, after 83 overs, Glenn Phillips was unbeaten on 41 runs and shouldering him was Tim Southee batting on unbeaten 10 runs. Kane Williamson was injured as he missed New Zealand's historic 3-0 Test series sweep against India, last month. That meant he had played only two tests and a recent domestic first-class match since June. But Kane Williamson fell short of just seven runs from completing his 33rd Test century as the "Black Caps" lost five wickets and some of the advantage it held earlier in the day. New Zealand was in a strong position at 193-3 at tea with Williamson in full flight but England battled its way back into the match in the last session of a tiring day of warm conditions and blustery winds. Shoaib Bashir took 4-69 in 20 overs, an unusually heavy workload for a spinner on the first day of a match at Hagley Oval. Williamson shared partnerships of 58 with Tom Latham (47), 68 with Rachin Ravindra (34) and 69 with Daryl Mitchell (34) which bound together the New Zealand innings. Also Read: Aston Villa denied late winner against Juventus Williamson's command of proceedings on day one made light of the fact it was a minor gamble to play him in this match. He took the place of Will Young who was Player of the Series in India, scoring 244 runs at an average of 48.8. This was a classic Williamson innings, mixing care and concentration for long periods with bursts of controlled aggression. He took 15 runs to get off the mark and played in Latham's shadow in the first session, contributing only seven runs to their 50 partnership. But after a lull, he hit back-to-back boundaries a sweet cover drive and a ruthless pull to bring up New Zealand's 100 in the 22nd. He was in one of his watchful periods before his dismissal. Seeking again to assert himself, he cut a ball from Gus Atkinson but didn't manage to get on top of the bounce and hit the ball directly to Zak Crawley at backward point. "It was a challenge", Williamson said. "There were some really good partnerships there. The ball did a little bit throughout but as we know the wicket here is pretty good and generally pretty fair for ball and bat. It was a pretty balanced day of test cricket." England would have been at an advantage after winning the toss, but the side did not embrace the most out of the opportunity provided by the toss. The pacers bowled their spells with energy but fell short of executing it as a group in the first two sessions. Stokes let the game wander and England captured only the fortuitous wicket of Ravindra while conceding 89 runs. The moderate impact of the England quicks was shown by the fact Stokes went to his spinner Bashir after only 29 overs. The pitch hadn't performed quite as England expected. England captured Latham's wicket after he had made 47 from only 54 balls and New Zealand came out on top after the first session. Brydon Carse bowled a good length ball from over the wicket which went across Latham and took the outside edge as he tried to turn the ball into the leg side. Ollie Pope, behind the stumps, completed the catch. Pope inherited the job of keeping wicket when Jordan Cox, who was expected to make his test debut in Christchurch, suffered a broken thumb in a training accident. Instead, 31-year-old Jacob Bethell was handed a test debut. He will bat at No. 3 though he hasn't yet scored a first-class century. Devon Conway fell in the second over of the innings, caught and bowled by Gus Atkinson. Williamson was out with the total 227-5 and New Zealand slipped to 252-7 before Phillips and Matt Henry added 46 for the eighth wicket. (With AP Inputs)

"Jay Shah will think about the ICC's benefit": Naqvi hopes positive response

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear that it is not possible for its national team to travel to India in future as India continues to refuse to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. He further termed it as an unequal situation. The Champions Trophy 2025 hangs in balance after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conveyed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that they won't be able to send its team to Pakistan. Following the matter, the ICC has held a virtual meeting of its executive board members on Friday to take a final decision. "It is just not possible that while Pakistan keeps on going and playing in India all events the Indian authorities are not willing to send their team to play in Pakistan. We can't have such an unequal situation", Naqvi told reporters last night at the Gaddafi stadium during a visit to inspect the construction work. Also Read: KL Rahul or Axar Patel to lead Delhi Capitals? See what co-owner says Previously, Mohsin Naqvi said that the board won't accept the proposal of hosting Team India matches using the Hybrid model. "All I can assure is whatever happens in the meeting we will come out with good news and decisions which will be accepted by our people", he said. Mohsin Naqvi hoped that Jay Shah, who will take over as the ICC Chairman on December 5, would make decisions based on the interest of world cricket and all member boards. "Jay Shah takes charge in December, and I'm sure once he moves from the BCCI to the ICC, he will think about the ICC's benefit, and that's what he should do." "Whenever anyone assumes such a role, he should only consider the interests of that organisation", he said. There were speculations that Pakistan would receive additional financial incentives to accept the Hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025, but Mohsin Naqvi remained non-committal. Naqvi said all such decisions and the outcome of the ICC meeting will be conveyed to the Pakistan government, which will take a final call. (With PTI Inputs)

KL Rahul or Axar Patel to lead Delhi Capitals? See what co-owner says

After picking Team India batsman KL Rahul in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal spoke about the franchise's captaincy slot between Rahul and Axar Patel. Ahead of the IPL 2025, Rahul and Axar Patel will have a big role to play. They need to bat long following which other players can express themselves freely. In the concluded IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals acquired the services of KL Rahul for Rs. 14 crores. After a bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DC entered the fray and got an opener, captain, and wicketkeeper-batter option in Rahul. Axar Patel on the other hand was retained by the franchise for his consistency since 2019. "It's a bit premature to talk about the captaincy. Axar Patel has been with the franchise for a very long time and he was the vice-captain for the last cycle, so we don't know whether it's going to be Axar or whether it's going be somebody else. A lot has to happen. I spoke to KL but haven't met him yet. I know him very well personally, I will understand from him (what he thinks), and, it will boil down to what the coaching group and finally what Kiran (Grandhi, the co-owner) and I want to do. There's a lot of time for that", Parth Jindal said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. Also Read: King Kohli reclaims his throne Further, the Delhi-based franchise co-owner said that Rahul was very excited to be along with the DC team. "He's very happy, very excited to be part of Delhi. He has known me for a long time. He's a Bangalore (Bengaluru) boy. I own Bengaluru FC (in the Indian Super League), so he's watched a few games with me. I know his wife Athiya (Shetty) well. She's been a close family friend growing up in Mumbai. So he (Rahul) was like, "I just want to play cricket. I just want to get the love and support from the franchise. I just want to get the respect and I know Parth from you, I will get that and just can't be more excited to play for a friend and let's make Delhi win. I have never won (IPL). Delhi has never won. Let's do it together." In a video posted by DC's official social media handle, KL Rahyul said that his journey with Delhi Capitals has begun and he is super excited. "Hey guys, I am super happy to be joining the Delhi Capitals. A new journey begins for me with the Delhi Capitals and I am super excited. The squad looks really good. Can't wait for the season to begin and come to Delhi and play at the Kotla and entertain all of you. So see you guys there", KL Rahul said in a video shared on DC's social media handle. Gujarat’s Urvil slams fastest T20 ton by Indian; Mumbai beat Maharashtra

Gujarat’s wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel slammed the fastest T20 century by an Indian during his team’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Tripura here on Wednesday, reaching the three-figure mark in just 28 balls as Gujarat completed the chase of 156 in 10.2 overs. Urvil, 26, bettered Rishabh Pant’s record (32-ball century against Himachal Pradesh in 2018) for the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian. Meanwhile, fifties by skipper Shreyas Iyer and veteran Ajinkya Rahane carried Mumbai to a five-wicket win over Maharashtra in a Group C match. Iyer struck a 71 off 39 balls to lead the chase of 172. Rahane scored 52 off 34 balls as Mumbai overhauled the target in 17.1 overs. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. "Nothing changed in the way we were as a group": Travis Head

Australia batter Travis Head has refuted claims the Test side is fractured after Josh Hazlewood caused a stir with a comment that implied there might be a split in the dressing room. Hazlewood fronted the media after play on Day Three and was asked how his side would handle Monday how Australia would approach day four from an effectively hopeless position of 3-12 chasing 534. Also Read: "His body was completely relaxed": Sunil Gavaskar on this Team India batsman His response to the query was, “You probably have to ask one of the batters that question. I’m sort of relaxing and trying to get a bit of physio and a bit of treatment, and I’m probably looking mostly towards the next Test and what plans we can do against these batters.” Hazlewood’s remarks took many by surprise. However, reacting to the matter, Head rallied to shut down the backlash. “I think [people have] picked the bones out of a comment on the back of a poor week, which is fine.  All the boys hung out together last night, nothing changed in the way we were as a group,” Head told 7NEWS. “We stuck together, had some good conversations as we always would, win or draw. It’s a pretty level group. No doubt there was a lot of disappointment around the room but definitely no fractions,” he added. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. "His body was completely relaxed": Sunil Gavaskar on this Team India batsman

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels a subtle adjustment to his batting stance in the second innings of the Perth Test helped Virat Kohli neutralise the Australian attack and rediscover his vintage form. Kohli arrived in Australia after a lean run of form across formats in recent months. His struggles against spin on turning tracks raised doubts about his spot in the team. However, he silenced his detractors by scoring his 30th Test ton in the first Test at Perth. It was his first hundred after the 121 against the West Indies at Port of Spain in July 2023. Also Read: Glenn Maxwell feels this Indian player will get more than 40 Test centuries “His body was completely relaxed when he came into bat in the second innings. In the first innings, because of the fact that India had lost two wickets early, he would have also been under pressure,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports. “In that second innings, you could sense apart from changing that stance, I think he also got his legs, which were maybe just a little bit wider at the start. Just a little bit, maybe I’m thinking too much, but that little thing might have given him that height he wanted. Well, in Australia, on the bouncier pitches, you need that edge. “I liked that mid-wicket boundary that he hit off Hazlewood. That, to me, was not the easiest of shots. A straight drive is a little easier because your stance is like that, but just to open up a little bit and play that - that was all magic.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Glenn Maxwell feels this Indian player will get more than 40 Test centuries

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ability to adapt to various conditions and minimal weaknesses will see the Indian opener score over 40 Test centuries and rewrite multiple records. Hailed as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents, the 22-year-old made a dazzling start to his Test career. He cemented his spot in the team with a stunning performance against England earlier this year. Also Read: King Kohli reclaims his throne “He’s [Jaiswal] a guy that will probably get more than 40 Test hundreds, and write some different records. He’s got a great ability to adapt to different conditions,” Maxwell said on The Grade Cricketer podcast. Playing his first Test Down Under, Jaiswal left an indelible impression with a remarkable 161 in the second innings as India defeated Australia to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. “He played a lot of shots that will be on highlights packages, but the stuff he did in between... the balls he left, the balls he got in behind... his footwork is pretty crisp; doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses. Plays the short ball well, drives well, plays spin unbelievably well and can absorb pressure for periods of time. “It’s going to be scary if Australia can’t find a way to stop him over the next few games,” Maxwell added. King Kohli reclaims his throne

“I have said this before, Virat Kohli doesn’t need us, we need him.” With these 13 words, Jasprit Bumrah added a few more million fans to his already burgeoning collection, showing himself to be not just a fabulous bowler, but also an excellent leader more than happy to share the credit around in his moment of tremendous glory. Bumrah was unsurprisingly the Player of the Match for his heroics in India’s commanding 295-run drubbing of Australia in the first Test. While his sustained brilliance with the ball is great news for the visitors, of as much significance is the return to run-making ways of Kohli, the former captain who came into this tour with a cloud hanging over his head. Struggles against spin Kohli’s international form through 2024 hasn’t been overwhelming. He had just two half-centuries across formats in 25 innings, the crowning glory being his Player-of-the-Final 76 against South Africa in the title round of the T20 World Cup in late June. As much as the lack of big runs, his vulnerability against the turning ball had become a talking point, especially after he mustered just 93 runs in six home innings against New Zealand, 70 of them in the second knock alone in the first Test in Bangalore. Also Read: Days after IPL auction, Vijay Shankar takes down Hardik Pandya with three powerful sixes: WATCH Having been on four previous Test tours of Australia that had netted him six centuries, Kohli was always going to loom as a central figure this time around too, his recent travails notwithstanding. The consensus was that away from the turners that have been his bugbears in the immediate past, he would rediscover his mojo, and that too in a country that has bestowed on him great success as well as a larger-than-life status. His preparations were immaculate, but then they had been so even in India when the runs weren’t coming. But class will out, and that’s what transpired at the Optus Stadium on Sunday when he ended a 16-month wait for a Test ton with a sparkling unbeaten 100 in India’s second innings. Classic revival In the absence of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, which ensured three first-time Test batters in Australia in the top six, the onus was on Kohli, as much as KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, to shore up the innings. All three of them delivered, none more numerically pronounced than Kohli, whose 30th Test ton was a throwback to the past when he made the bowlers do his bidding and gradually shifted through the gears after getting his eye in. Undone in the first innings by the steepling bounce Josh Hazlewood generated on the first morning, Kohli was more at home two days later in slightly becalmed conditions, standing a little closer to the crease, not committing totally to the forward press and therefore able to play the ball later and closer to his body. His march from 50 to 100 in just 49 deliveries was selfless and frenetic with a declaration looming and by the end, the swag was back, the silken touch was unmistakable. With four Tests remaining, Kohli and India couldn’t be more delighted. Australia, meanwhile, have been forewarned.

Vijay Shankar (Pic: AFP)

Days after IPL auction, Shankar takes down Pandya with three powerful sixes

Fast-bowling all-rounders have always been a prized asset in Indian cricket, a rare breed that can balance both bat and ball effectively. Among the top contenders for this coveted role in recent years has been Hardik Pandya, who has been a key player in the Indian cricket team. Over the years, however, several other names have emerged as potential options, such as Shardul Thakur, Vijay Shankar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Though not always consistent at the international level, these players have strived to fill a gap in Indian cricket that few others can. Vijay Shankar, who has been in the spotlight as a fast-bowling all-rounder for years, had a fleeting taste of international cricket. His most notable stint came during the 2019 World Cup, where he was included in India’s squad but struggled to make a lasting impact on the international stage. Since then, his international career failed to gain momentum, and he was eventually sidelined from the national team. However, Shankar has continued to impress with his domestic performances, which led to his acquisition by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 1.20 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. This was seen as a fresh opportunity for Shankar to rejuvenate his career, albeit in a different format of the game. Just days after the auction, CSK shared a post on social media that went viral, showcasing Shankar in ‘beast mode.’ The post featured a highlight from the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, where Shankar hammered Hardik Pandya for three consecutive sixes. 6️⃣.6️⃣.6️⃣!🥳🔥Vijay in BEAST MODE! #SMAT #WhistlePodu@vijayshankar260pic.twitter.com/6JFc0osJEy — Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) November 27, 2024 The caption read, "6.6.6. Vijay in beast mode," which reignited excitement among his supporters. Despite his limited opportunities with the Indian team, Shankar has shown his ability to shine at the domestic level, where he has been a consistent performer for Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya, who has been the most prominent fast-bowling all-rounder for India in recent years, continues to set new records. During the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Pandya led Baroda to a commanding five-wicket victory over Gujarat, making a rare but impactful appearance in the domestic circuit. Also Read: The real reason Rishabh Pant left DC? Co-owner points to 'philosophical’ divide Hardik’s blazing knock of 74 runs off just 35 balls, striking an astonishing strike rate of 211.4, was a demonstration of his destructive batting prowess. His innings included six fours and five sixes, further cementing his reputation as one of the most dynamic all-rounders in the T20 format. In addition to his explosive batting, Hardik also contributed with the ball, taking a wicket for 37 runs in his four overs, helping his team restrict Gujarat to 184 for five. Pandya’s all-round performance added to his growing list of accomplishments, as he became the first Indian player in history to achieve the unique double of 5,000 runs and 100 wickets in T20 cricket. With 5,067 runs and 180 wickets in T20 matches, Pandya continues to break new ground, further solidifying his position as one of India’s premier all-rounders. Meanwhile, Axar Patel, another key player in the Indian team, had a quiet outing in the same match. He made an unbeaten contribution of 43 runs off 33 balls but failed to make an impact with the ball, going wicketless and conceding 31 runs in his full quota of overs. On the bowling front, Ravi Bishnoi was the standout performer for his team, taking two wickets and providing much-needed control during Gujarat's innings.

Rishabh Pant (Pic: AFP)

The real reason Rishabh Pant left DC? Co-owner points to 'philosophical’ divide

Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal stated that the franchise's split with star India wicketkeeper-batter and marquee player Rishabh Pant was due to differences in "philosophies" regarding franchise management, and had nothing to do with financial issues. Pant became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history when Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) purchased him for a staggering Rs 27 crore during the IPL mega auction held in Jeddah on Sunday. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo about Rishabh's departure, Parth said, "It was just a different philosophy of how he wanted the franchise to operate and how we--the owners--wanted the franchise to operate. That is what caused it. It has nothing to do with money. Money has never been an issue for Rishabh, and money's never been an issue for us. I guess the three of us (Kiran Grandhi, Jindal, and Pant) were on different wavelengths. He took a call at the end of it. We tried everything, but he decided eventually that it was time to move on." Parth admitted that the split had been "devastating" for him personally. "I love the boy like my own brother. He took a call at the end of the day. We tried our best. He made the decision, and we have to respect it," he added. Also Read: Gujarat's Urvil Patel slams century in 28 balls, fastest T20 hundred by an Indian Parth clarified that leadership was not a contentious issue leading to Pant's departure, though the wicketkeeper-batter has aspirations of captaining India someday. "We gave him some feedback regarding leadership. We suggested ways he could improve, but we were quite clear about his ambitions. We know where he wants to go. He has made it amply clear that his dream and desire is to captain India, and that starts with captaining an IPL team," he concluded. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter is an all-format player for India and a livewire on the field. Known for his ability to deliver on big occasions in Test cricket, Pant has an equally solid T20 game. Though his T20I statistics show 1,209 runs in 76 matches at an average of 23.25 and a strike rate of nearly 128, his overall T20 numbers are far more impressive, with 5,022 runs in 202 matches at an average of 31.78, a strike rate exceeding 145, including two centuries and 25 fifties. Pant has been a vital part of the Delhi Capitals since 2016, scoring 3,284 runs in 110 matches at an average of 35.31, with a century and 18 fifties. He was appointed team captain in 2021 and led DC to the playoffs that same season.
