Cricket legend Kapil Dev, who turned 62 on Wednesday, spoke to mid-day on his life post his recent heart attack, offered advice to fellow heart patient Sourav Ganguly, the problem with India's rising population and the ongoing India v Australia Test series.

Edited excerpts:

No red meat

I am in Delhi, not flying to any other city; not driving. I'm not consuming red meat and go to the golf course every second day - not every day.

Three weeks rest for Dada

I gather Sourav Ganguly required three stents. He should rest for three weeks. Rest does not mean lying down in bed. He should relax; move in the house only.

Primary target: 350 runs

The victory in Melbourne was great given the absence of Virat Kohli and achieved after being bundled out for 36 in the previous Test. Full credit to Ajinkya Rahane. He batted like a champion and led brilliantly.

We now know that our bowlers will take 20 wickets. But we have to bat well and our primary target should be 350-plus runs.

Population control, please

People should not have more than two children. How many people we had in 1947? We now have 135 crore. Can you think how many we will have in the next 30 years? It will cross 200 crore. Where will they get food from? How much will our farmers slog? Where will they stay? I am worried. If anyone has more than two children, their voting rights must be taken away.
