Mumbai Indians bowed out of IPL-7 at the Brabourne Stadium after losing the Eliminator to Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. But the fightback they displayed in the competition after a poor start to the season won them a lot of applause.

Chief coach John Wright acknowledged this fact after the loss, saying: "We showed a lot of fight. To pick up the momentum from where we were was impressive. We really struggled at the start. We were very rusty in most areas. It was a fantastic effort to get to the final four."

Disappointed with loss
Nevertheless, Wright was disappointed by their loss but would not pinpoint one single factor. "There were a number of factors. We were probably 20 short with the bat, from the position we got to, we were looking at 190+.

"And then they got away a bit at the start. We didn't have a lot of luck early on. We needed early wickets and we couldn't achieve that. We weren't quite on top of our game today and we were punished for it."

Posing a challenge
Talking about MI's loss of momentum towards the closing stages of their innings, Wright said: "They made things challenging for us and there were a couple of balls that didn't quite clear the boundary. Some days those carry and you're looking at 210, it didn't happen today.

He also said that things could have been different had their paceman Lasith Malinga been around.
