Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) opener Jos Buttler stole the show with an attacking 61-ball 103 (9x4, 5x6) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an IPL15 match at the Brabourne Stadium on Monday. Thanks to his effort, RR post a mammoth 217-5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Buttler, 31, notched up his second century of this edition in just 59 balls when he dispatched Australian pacer Pat Cummins’s (1-50) full toss over the long-on fence. The Englishman—the tournament’s current top-scorer with 375 runs in six games—had scored his first century against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium a couple of weeks earlier.
At the time of going to press, KKR were 93 for one in eight overs with Aaron Finch on 49 and skipper Shreyas Iyer on 39 at the crease.
Put in to bat, initially it was a tussle between the two men in form—Buttler and KKR pacer Umesh Yadav (0-44). In the very first over, against a fired-up Umesh, Buttler faced four deliveries and managed just a solitary run.
However, he thrashed Umesh in his second over for two fours and a six. Thanks to some great footwork and timing, he then dispatched leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy (0-30) with a straight six off a backfoot punch.
RR’s first 50 came in only 32 balls with Buttler having scored 36 of them, while fellow opener Devdutt Padikkal (24 off 18) had just eight. RR scored 60 in the Powerplay. Buttler got his first 50 off just 29 balls.
