It was only the second time in five editions that the Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to qualify for the IPL playoffs at the last edition in the UAE.

In the 2016 edition, RCB finished second and the following year they ended up at the bottom. In 2019 IPL too, Virat Kohli’s men were the table laggards. They only sneaked into the Top Four via better Net Run Rate (-0.172) in the last IPL after three teams finished with 14 points each.

RCB are hoping to make it to the playoffs for the second consecutive time, according to their South African big-hitter AB de Villiers.

“One thing that stands out for me is the consistency in the language from the coaches. It is very exciting that we have got the same mould like last year, some new faces, yes, but the same language used which gives us [players] the freedom and comfort while focusing on our games, making sure what we need to do,” the former SA skipper said during a virtual interaction on Thursday.

“There are a bunch of talented players that have come in. I’m quite excited to play alongside them. We had a fantastic season last time, but obviously, we didn’t win the trophy, so looking to do that this time. A lot of credit to the coaches for setting it up all in the same manner,” added De Villiers, hoping to play in front of fans before he decides to completely bid adieu to competitive cricket.
