Prolific batsman Shreyas Iyer, who missed Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda, has conveyed to Mumbai’s chief selector Raju Kulkarni that he wants to play in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu, starting on March 2 at MCA-BKC. Iyer has played only one game for Mumbai this season in which he scored 48 against Andhra Pradesh in January. It is learnt that Iyer has fully recovered from his back spasm. Iyer had scored 35 and 13 for India in the first Test against England at Hyderabad and followed that up with 27 and 29 in the second Test at Visakhapatnam after which he was excluded from the team. “He [Iyer] told us that he wants to play for Mumbai, so we are very happy about it. He has declared himself fit and will play [in the semi-final],” Kulkarni told mid-day on Tuesday. Iyer has replaced Suryansh Shedge in the 16-member Mumbai squad.
