Cheteshwar Pujara’s first-ball duck on Day One of the opening Test against South Africa has set an unwanted record for the Rajkot batsman. Pujara’s woeful form continued after he was dismissed first ball, inside edging a defensive shot to Keegan Petersen at short leg off Lungi Ngidi.

Pujara now has most number of ducks (9) by an Indian No. 3 batsman in Test cricket. Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar had eight ducks in 116 Tests. Current India coach Rahul Dravid was dismissed seven times without scoring during his glorious career.

Mohinder Amarnath, the 1983 World Cup-winning member, had six ducks, while Ajit Wadekar was out five times without troubling the scorers. Pujara averages 31.62 in eight Tests in South Africa. This year, he averages 29.83 in 13 Tests.
