Opener Aayush Makwana’s brilliant 100 helped Goregaon Centre post a huge score of 359-6 against Vasantdada Patil College Centre  (VDPC) on Day One of the two-day 25th Ajit Naik Memorial Selection Trial U-14 cricket tournament semi-final at Dadkar Maidan, Matunga.

Aayush and Ram Shandilya stitched together 104 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was dismissed for 33 by VDPC’s left-arm spinner Saad Khan. Aayush continued his merry way, displaying a wide range of shots while hitting 17 boundaries. His ability to punish overpitched deliveries on offer was commendable.

The best partnership of the day for Goregaon came for the fourth wicket when Tanish Shetty (72) and Aryan Pawar (72) put on 136 runs. Aryan and Tanish looked aggressive, hitting 13 and nine fours respectively. VDPC Centre had very little to take away from the day’s play; Saad being the only bowler who stood out (3-79).

The other semi-final was contested between Vasai Centre and Thane Centre at the Worli Sports Club.

According to a press release, Vasai ended the day with 255-7 in 85 overs. Devansh Trivedi (66), Kshitij Pradyumn (64), Pritesh Bengani (47) and Aarav Malhotra (40) were the principal scorers while Karthik Kumar claimed 2-43.
