According to sources, the BCCI is convinced that Fleming is the right man for the post although there have been reports of ex-Aussie players Shane Warne and Tom Moody being interested in the job.

When asked whether the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly will decide on the coach, the source said that while these greats will be consulted, at the moment this committee does
not exist.

Shastri shows the way
After the exit of Zimbabwean Duncan Fletcher, the team was guided by Ravi Shastri, who wore the hat of Team Director. Shastri guided the team to a semi-final finish in the 50-50 World Cup last year and the recent World T20. India also won a home Test series against South Africa.

Fleming (43) will be in India for the next two months since he is coaching Rising Pune Supergiants, which will be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It is learnt that the new India coach will only get a 10-month contract — June 2016 to March 2017. He will be free to coach an Indian Premier League franchise in April and May.

Recently, Fleming spoke on Dhoni’s future in international cricket: “I think he is quite fit. Especially having quit Test cricket, he has got that right balance to his life. He has got a very young family. The kind of character he is, I am sure he will know when time is up for him. He is not someone who will stay on selfishly,” said Fleming.
