Sri Lanka got off to a winning start against Bangladesh in the tri-series in a match that would stand them in good stead for their clash against India here today. However, skipper Kumar Sangakkara was wary of the dew factor which hampered the Bangladeshi bowlers. The Lankans posted an emphatic seven-wicket victory under lights.
Sangakkara, who elected to field after winning the toss, said he did not want to bowl in the night because of the dew. "I have seen dew before, but never like this. I would not want to field in conditions like this. My bowlers would not want to bowl in these conditions," he said. Tillakaratne Dilshan cracked a solid century to power the 1996 Word Cup champs Sri Lanka to victory but the Lankan captain was more aggressive than his partner, scoring a 73-ball 74 with 10 fours before being caught behind off debutant seamer Shafiul Islam.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan did not hide his displeasure over the dew factor.
"We batted really well, although some of our middle-order batsmen did not click. The dew also hampered us as we had four spinners," said Shakib. Bangladesh were well-served by Mohd Ashraful, who made an impressive 75.
