India managed to score 254-7 after the match was reduced to 34 overs due to rain thanks mainly to the 126-run third-wicket partnership between Sarfaraz and Anmolpreet Singh (56 off 41 balls).
The duo who came together with the Indian innings tottering at 23-2 in 3.2 overs, steadied the ship and helped the team put up a respectable total. Set a revised target of 246 in 29 overs after another rain stoppage, England could only manage 159-9.
Mahipal Lomror was the pick of the bowlers for India with 4-10 while Kanishk Seth and Mayank Dagar claimed two wickets each. India will now face hosts Sri Lanka in their second encounter on Saturday.
