The American media had earlier reported that the big fat McIlroy-Wozniacki wedding would be in November. However, Wozniacki's recent interview claiming that she wants to be a young mother soon, has indicated an earlier date. Yesterday, Irish media was abuzz with sources revealing that an August wedding in New York is on the cards.
End-of-August date
A source close to the couple told Independent.ie: "Rory is marrying Caroline in late August. They've only been engaged a few months, but they're both keen to make it official and are a planning a spectacular day for guests.
"They're keeping their invite list under wraps for now for security reasons because it includes some A-list superstars from around the world." McIlroy and Wozniacki have been romancing each other since 2011. On last New Year's eve in Sydney McIlroy reportedly proposed marriage and the tennis star accepted.
Irishman McIlroy (24) lives in Florida, USA, while Wozniacki (23) is Danish and resides in the French Riviera. Though there is no official word from the couple yet, when Wozniacki was asked a few months ago what life after marriage would be like, she had said: "We live together now, so it's not going to really change that much. We know what we want, and it just gives us even more time to focus on our careers."
Million-dollar wedding
During the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year, after McIlroy missed out on the record USD 2.5 million on offer for a hole-in-one at the 17th hole, he had said: "I saw the pitch mark and it must have just run past the hole. It could've paid for my wedding."
The Irish Mirror had earlier reported that the guest list for the wedding includes nearly 200 celebrities from the world of sports and politics. Prominent among them is former US president Bill Clinton. A source said: "They've chosen New York because Rory is now based in America, so they thought it made sense. Money being no issue, they're flying who they want to be there on their big day to New York.
