Youngster Rajat Patidar showed character to crack his third first-class century as Madhya Pradesh tightened their grip on Bengal at the end of the third day of the Ranji Trophy quarter final at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium

Rajat Patidar’s impressive 137 helped Madhya Pradesh score 338 for five to enjoy a 565-run lead at stumps on Day Three of the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals against Bengal at Brabourne Stadium yesterday.

Patidar, playing in his fifth first-class match, scored his third century during his 337- minute stay at the wicket. In the process, he shared a 141-run stand for the third wicket with wicketkeeper Naman Ojha (52).


Patidar also put on 114 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Devendra Bundela (72).

“I am disappointed at missing out on a double ton,” said the 22-year-old Patidar who scored 60 and 101 against Baroda in his debut match three months ago. Bengal’s left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha captured his 400 first-class wicket when he sent back Bundela.
