To say RP Singh has a challenge on hand on Day Two of the fourth and final Test against England at the Oval would be an understatement. RP, who was flown in as a replacement for Zaheer Khan, has to bowl to a well-oiled England batting machinery in sunshine, if the weather forecast proves as accurate as it was yesterday on Day One.
The weather man said that play would not resume after lunch and it didn't. England couldn't add to their lunch score of 75 for no loss and Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook will be looking to continue their fine work. At Edgbaston, they put on 186 in England's first innings before Cook went on to plunder 294. "I learned a few more things from the last series I played in 2007 here in England. I now can swing the ball into the left-handed batsmen. There is no pressure on me as a strike bowler," said RP yesterday. Speaking about his selection for the Test, he said: "After the warm-up when PK said he was not fit for the match, the coach (Duncan Fletcher) came to me and told me, 'you are playing.'
"I played the Indian Premier League and a few club matches. I played few one-day games and the IPL so I am fit for the matches," he stressed.
Only 26 overs were bowled yesterday. England are looking for a 4-0 scoreline after emphatic victories at Lord's (by 196 runs), Trent Bridge (by 319 runs) and Edgbaston (innings and 242 runs).
