Indore: Former India pacer and Gujarat's bowling spearhead RP Singh lost his cool after being booed by fans on Day Three of the Ranji Trophy final against Mumbai, here yesterday. Bowling from the Colonel CK Nayudu Pavilion end at the Holkar Stadium, Singh was into Gujarat innings' 48th over when fans yelled at him to take a wicket. Just before the last ball of the over, the 31-year-old was engaged in a discussion with the mid-off fielder when one fan shouted: "Bate kam karo aur bowling dalo" (talk less and bowl). Singh, who was outraged with the comment, immediately showed his middle finger to the fan. The incident was not seen on television, but mid-day spotted the ugly incident. After completing the over, the 31-year-old former Uttar Pradesh speedster was returning back to his allotted fielding position when he made a rather awkward sign to the fan again. Gujarat skipper Parthiv Patel immediately replaced Singh with pacer Chintan Gaja. Singh bowled 14 overs in the day going for 37 runs without a wicket.

Bad example
Cricket has seen many foul incidents occur on the pitch. Some of them include players venting their frustration on teammates or even fans as well. But players should realise that their reactions might affect budding cricketers too. When Singh showed the finger, he was facing the dressing rooms of both the teams. Mumbai, a team that has young Prithvi Shaw in their ranks, among other players, witnessed the
incident.

They all watched it
There were many Madhya Pradesh's under-19 cricketers present who were enjoying the match. Imagine what would they have thought after seeing an India cricketer, who played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is, lose his cool and behave in such a manner right in front of them? Left-arm pacer Singh, who was impressive on India's victorious 2007 Test series in England, figured in the final Test of the 2011 Test series against England at the Oval, but went wicketless.
