London: Out-of-favour batsman Kevin Pietersen has accepted England cricket chief Andrew Strauss' decision to exclude him from the England squad for this year's Ashes series against Australia, saying the decision seemed right at this particular moment.

The 35-year-old said that he is absolutely okay with what Strauss had done, admitting that his decision to bring back past players in the squad was brilliant, the Guardian reports.

Pietersen revealed that when the decision was made not to include him for the Ashes Test, he felt that his omission was ridiculous, adding that it later turned out to be absolutely fine as England won the Ashes series by 3-2.

The South African-born batsman's hopes of earning an England recall suffered a heavy blow, despite hitting an unbeaten triple ton for Surrey in county cricket in May, when new director of cricket Andrew Strauss told the maverick batsman that he would never play for his adopted country again.

Pietersen, a veteran of 104 Tests and 136 one-day caps for England, has been out of the national squad since his central contract was cancelled by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) following the team's Ashes washout by Australia in 2014.
