It is another blow for Pakistan's tainted trio Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir. After being banned for 10, seven and five years respectively for their involvement in spot fixing, the three players have lost their jobs as well.

The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) with whom Butt, Asif and Amir were employed with has not renewed their contracts, which expired on December 31, 2010. "Why should we renew their contracts when they will not be able to play for the bank anymore," said Iqbal Qasim, Sports Head of NBP. "These players were not holding any key positions in the bank. They were contracted to play for us and each of them were being paid R 6.50 to R 7 lakhs annually. We might think of awarding them new contracts only if they win the legal battle against the ICC. Otherwise, they will need to apply for fresh contracts after the ban period," added Qasim.

Zulfiqar Ali Butt, father of Salman, had no regrets on his son losing the job.

"We have no regrets about Salman losing his job. Obviously, if he is not playing for the bank, his contract will not be extended," Butt Sr said.

Butt has yet to finalise his plan to challenge the ICC verdict. "Our UK-based lawyer, Yasin Patel is expected to arrive in Pakistan soon. We will decide thereafter," Butt Sr said.
