“Zaheer is unavailable for the first two matches. Once he confirms his availability, he will be considered for selection,” Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) Joint Honorary Secretary Dr Unmesh Khanwilkar told SUNDAY mid-day on Saturday.
It is learnt that Zaheer, who will turn 37 on October 7, did not attend any pre-season training camps or took part in the two preparatory tours of the Mumbai team in the last couple of months.
Missed last year too
Zaheer missed the entire last season for Mumbai due to a shoulder injury in the 2014 Indian Premier League. He, however played in the 2015 IPL for Delhi Daredevils, claiming seven wickets in as many matches.
MCA sources said Zaheer is returning to Mumbai on Monday and is likely to have a discussion with the MCA officials. Sources close to Zaheer said that the pace ace is keen to play in the Ranji Trophy.
