Rajkot: Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to witness the region's historic first Test match to be played between India and England at Rajkot from November 9.

"We've invited the honourable Prime Minister to grace the special occasion of the first ever Test match in Rajkot and Saurashtra," SCA supremo Niranjan Shah told mid-day.

"His blessings and good wishes have been an encouragement and inspiration for all of us at SCA. We are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the Prime Minister's presence during the historic Test match."

Shah was referring to Modi's encouraging words both when, as the chief minister of Gujarat, he laid the foundation stone of the SCA Stadium on the outskirts of Rajkot on January 9, 2006, and when he inaugurated the stadium on January 5, 2013.

The SCA has also invited all the players hailing from Saurashtra who have played Test cricket. They include Salim Durrani, Dilip Doshi, Karsan Ghavri, Yajurvindra Singh, Ajay Jadeja and Dhiraj Parsana.

Online sale of tickets for the Test match has already started since last two days.
