Sharma, who sought voluntary retirement from the country’s premier investigating agency in 2008, has handled some high profile cases including the hijack of Indian Airlines flight IC 814 more than a decade ago. Sharma led the team which extradited notorious criminal Babloo Srivastava from Singapore in 1995 and also played a key role in bringing the killers of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh to book.

As Central Information Commissioner last year, Sharma had asked the BCCI and its 29 affiliated units to furnish details of government land and buildings they have been occupying. His bench was hearing a petition regarding the identity of BCCI and whether it is a public or private body.

“I don’t want to talk about this issue now. But I have agreed to work as I was sounded out by the committee, ” Sharma, told mid-day yesterday. However, BCCI lawyer CA Sundram raised an objection to Sharma’s inclusion in the probe panel citing the order he passed against BCCI last year.
