Former India batsman Pravin Amre's resignation from the Managing Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was not accepted at a committee meeting yesterday. On Thursday, Amre decided to step down from his MCA post citing conflict of interest with his role as head of talent hunt of Indian Premier League team, Delhi Daredevils. The MCA, however, has decided to approach the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for clarity in Amre's conflict of interest issue.
"The MCA has decided to approach the Board to guide us in this case since there is a Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) looking into affairs. As of now, there has been no decision on Amre and he can continue with both his roles in the MCA till the Board clarifies," an MCA official told mid-day. Amre is also the chief of MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee. His panel recently conducted a talent hunt programme across the city in a bid to bolster Mumbai's bowling attack.
Meanwhile, the MCA is all set to roll out its ambitious T20 league in March. "The documentation process has been cleared. We are looking to hold the tournament from March 11 to 21. In a couple of weeks, we will finalise the six franchises. We may have an auction for the marquee players and a draft system for the rest," the official added.
As far as the new draft constitution based on the Lodha Committee report is concerned, members have requested the MCA Managing Committee to grant them more time to offer suggestions. Some members raised objections that the draft constitution is not as per the Lodha Committee report. A two-week extension was granted. Reacting to BCCI acting president CK Khanna's letter to shift the BCCI headquarters to Bangalore, the MCA Managing Committee felt that the Board office should remain in Mumbai.
