The MCA's Managing Committee is also likely to arrive at a decision on coaches for age-group teams.
Mumbai's 2013 Ranji Trophy-winning captain Ajit Agarkar is a frontrunner for the senior team. However, former Mumbai coach Praveen Amre, who coached the team to three Ranji titles, is also one of the favourites for the job.
The other prominent candidates interviewed by MCA are Rahul Mankad, Sairaj Bahutule and Balvinder Singh Sandhu.
Erstwhile Mumbai captain and selector Paras Mhambrey, who was one of the candidates in the fray, decided to coach Vidarbha after the MCA delayed the coach decision.
Mumbai experienced one of the most disastrous seasons in recent times after none of the teams won any title, except the U-14 team that clinched the West Zone championship.
