London: England's 2005 Ashes-winning captain Michael Vaughan insists Alastair Cook should be relieved of the captaincy. "Cook is clearly struggling with his form and captaincy. The selectors must replace him as captain," said Vaughan as he left Lord's on Monday after his country's 95-run loss in the second Test.

When asked who would be his choice as new captain, the Yorkshireman mentioned Eoin Morgan, who was not part of the Test XI. He also said Ian Bell and Stuart Broad were other candidates to look at although he conceded that Bell has not been among the runs in the series.

Another former captain, Andrew Strauss, who was leaving Lord's with Vaughan, was emphatic that Cook had to go. Geoff Boycott too was not in favour of England continuing with Cook at the helm. "No England captain has enjoyed so much tolerance. Cook is a good lad, but he isn't getting runs," said Boycott.

In his Daily Telegraph column, Boycott the former England opener wrote: "I hear people say: 'Who would we put in his place? There isn't anybody out there!' But how the hell do they know?

You cannot tell what somebody will bring to the role until you give him a chance. And neither should you keep a captain who is on a losing streak, and can't buy a run, simply because you're not sure who else to appoint."
