Chelsea's offer for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres gets the backing of star midfielder Frank Lampard. He hinted that he is keen for Chelsea to up their offer for the Spaniard.


Sky Sports News reported that the Blues are set to further test Liverpool's resolve by launching a fresh ufffd40million bid, with the end of the January transfer window closing in.




However, just hours after the Reds agreed a deal with Ajax for their Uruguay forward Luiz Suarez, Torres handed in a written transfer request which was rejected by the Merseysiders.

Lampard admits any player of Torres' calibre would be 'very welcome' at Stamford Bridge.

"Players of a top, top level and world-class players will always help your squad. It remains to be seen what happens with the club ufffd who they bring in and who the manager wants to bring in ufffd but they'll always be very welcome from us," said Lampard.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti refused to be drawn on the Torres situation after his side's 1-1 draw against Everton in the FA Cup as speculation grew that Chelsea were set to increase their offer and possibly even throw in striker Nicolas Anelka to sweeten the deal. "We will have to wait," he said.
