Ravichandran Ashwin chose a perfect occasion to settle his Indian Premier League battle with Australian Glenn Maxwell. At the Ceat cricket awards ceremony yesterday where the Indian offie was awarded the Indian Player of the Year, Ashwin clarified his over-the-top reaction after claiming Maxwell's wicket in the Qualifier 2 at the Wankhede Stadium last Friday.

Ashwin blew a kiss after claiming Maxwell's wicket for the first time in three matches of IPL-7 against Kings XI Punjab. Ashwin's reaction, however, did not go down well with his Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni.

Before the Qualifier 2, Ashwin threw an open challenge to Maxwell that he can expect him to come over the wicket. Maxwell had taken Ashwin to cleaners during the two league ties with CSK. "It (reaction) was nothing against Maxi.

It was just to show some people that I can come back. I took it as a personal battle as he took me on and was delighted to get him out," Ashwin said. Virat Kohli was awarded the Cricketer of the Year while Shikhar Dhawan was chosen as the ODI Player of the Year.
