Losing captain Kings XI Punjab skipper Kumar Sangakkara reckoned his team's poor start against defending champions Deccan Chargers cost his side dear in the Indian Premier League here yesterday.

Chasing a not-so-easy target of 171, Kings XI made a horror start to their innings. They lost three wickets for only 27 runs in the first six overs.

"The fielding and bowling was lot better. We executed our plans on the field well, but it was the first six overs that cost us the match. But Irfan Pathan played a magnificent innings towards the end to keep us in," said Sangakkara after the six-run defeat. Pathan, an India discard, scored 60 off 29 balls. He also hit five sixes.

Sangakkara was hopeful of a better showing after losing three games on the trot. "Hopefully, we can turnaround the results in the next games. The guys are working very hard," he said.

Deccan Chargers' captain Adam Gilchrist was disappointed that his side couldn't score a bit more.
