Wellington: Kane Williamson became the number one-ranked Test batsman as New Zealand secured the two-match series 2-0 after comprehensively defeating Sri Lanka by five wickets on day four of the second match in Hamilton on Monday.

Williamson, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, capped off a remarkable year by setting a new record for scoring most number of Test runs by a New Zealand batsman in a calendar year. He accumulated a staggering 1172 runs for his nation in 2015.

The 25-year-old prolific batsman has also scored a test double century, four other centuries and four half-centuries in this season.

With the win, New Zealand have extended their winning streak in home Tests to 13.

New Zealand will now take on Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series and two Twenty20 matches to follow.
