Jhunjhunwala beat Rizvi to emerge junior college cricket champs

Jhunjhunwala College emerged champions in the junior inter-college cricket tournament for the Saqib Rizvi Memorial Trophy, organised by the Junior College Sports Association and Rizvi Education Society.


They defeated Rizvi College on first innings in the two-day final at the MIG Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Jhunjhunwala seamer K Hangavadi came up with a brilliant six-wicket haul to bowl out Rizvi for 161 while they chased their opponents’ first innings score of 236.


Only K Mohnish put up a fight and scored 160-ball 68 as Rizvi fell short of their opponents’ first innings score by 75 runs. Rizvi struggled on a difficult wicket. M Shaikh was the other main contributor for Rizvi with 29. Jhunjhunwala scored 91 for five in the second innings.


Brief scores: Jhunjhunwala College 236 & 91-5 (K Dafedar 2/37, A Shaikh 2/33) beat Rizvi College (Bandra) 161 all out (K Mohnish 68, M Shaikh 29; K Hangavadi 6-60, S Bhagat 2-20, O Jaiswal 2-12)
