The last two years have been a rollercoaster ride for Aaron Finch. He was appointed Australia's T20 captain only to be stripped off it ahead of the World T20 last year.

To make matters worse, he suffered a calf injury, similar to the one that kept him out of the first two matches in this series. His ODI form began to slide too and he was dropped at the start of the year, but reinstated as T20 skipper a week later.

These incidents would have left him mentally fragile and frustrated, but the minute he took guard for the third ODI against India in Indore yesterday. he seemed determined to turn things around.

Patience pays off
The hosts blocked his go-to shots by employing a straight mid-on and offered him no width during the initial phase of the innings, but Finch was ready to bide his time. His first aggressive shot came in the seventh over, when he flicked pacer Jasprit Bumrah off his pads to the square leg fence.

The minute the spinners were introduced, Finch adopted the same approach wait and watch approach before attacking.

After studying Yuzvendra Chahal's leg break closely for 10 balls, he finally dispatched him straight back over his head for six. Thereafter, it was vintage Finch all the way.
