They have the top two run-getters and the highest wicket-taker this season, yet they are in danger of not making it to the IPL play offs. The way defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad had begun their campaign who would have thought that all their hopes would rest on their last league match vs Gujarat Lions at Green Park today.
Skipper David Warner and fellow opener Shikhar Dhawan, the top two run-getters this IPL, have almost 1,000 runs between them in 12 matches while Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 23 wickets is way ahead of the field.
Afghani leg-spinner Rashid Khan has an impressive economy rate of under-seven. With such quality performers, the team should have been riding high, but it is not. They now desperately require to beat Gujarat Lions, especially as Kings XI Punjab are on their heels and a slip can allow the latter to sneak into the play offs.
A win for Hyderabad would ensure them a berth in the last-four, but if they lose, they would have to pray that Punjab lose to Pune on Sunday in order to qualify.
