ICC approves day-night Tests

The International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday gave the green signal to day-night Tests to be played with coloured balls

ICC approves day-night Tests

The new rules will come into effect with the series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, which starts with the one-off T20 international at Pallekele today.


“Participating countries may agree to play day-night Test matches. The home and visiting boards will decide on the hours of play which will be six hours of scheduled play per day while the two boards will also decide on the precise brand, type and colour of ball to be used for the match,” the ICC said in a statement.


ICC also announced few changes in the playing conditions, including powerplays, fielding restrictions, short-pitched deliveries in the ODIs, Decision Review System, no-ball, dead ball, over-rates (applicable in all the formats) and changes in one over per side eliminator in T20Is.


Key changes

In Tests...
>> Lunch & Tea intervals can be of 30 mins each subject to ICC approval, rather than 40 and 20 mins respectively

In ODIs...
>> Only two blocks of Powerplays in ODIs will apply with first one being mandatory for the first 10 overs
>> The second five-over batting Powerplay will have to be completed by theu00a040th over

In T20s...
>> In both innings of the one-over-per-side eliminator, the fielding side can choose from which end to bowl.u00a0
