Afridi has a message for those accusing Pakistan of fixing go, check our record!

Flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi came down heavily on the Pakistan team's detractors who are accusing them of match-fixing during the Champions Trophy.

"We have done so well. Everyone who I meet congratulate me on the team's performance in the Champions Trophy. I can't understand why some people are making baseless allegations," a peeved Afridi told MiD DAY yesterday.

The highlight of Pakistan's campaign was their comprehensive victory over arch-rivals India in the group stage, which sealed them a semi-final spot.

However, Pakistan suffered an off day against New Zealand and lost the semi-final game of the one-day tournament hosted by South Africa. It triggered off familiar talk of match-fixing.

Younis' warning
Skipper Younis Khan came under fire because he dropped a sitter during the game leading to accusations that he did so on purpose. Frustrated by the loose-talk, Younis yesterday threatened to resign from captaincy.

"If they build too much pressure and level unnecessary allegations against me, I have an option ofu00a0 quitting the captaincy. The attitude of the National assembly standing committee for sports is not good. I am still considering whether to attend the October 13 meeting," Younis said.

Chairman of the National assembly standing committee on sports Jamshed Khan Dasti had accused the Pakistan players of being involved in match-fixing and subsequently summoned the captain, coach, manager and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman for a hearing on October 13.

Meanwhile, the PCB issued a show cause notice to PCB's governing board member Dr Mohd Ali Shah for making fixing allegations against umpire Simon Taufel, who officiated Pakistan's semi-final game.

"I don't have any concrete proof against Taufel, I made the allegations on the basis of circumstantial evidence," Dr Shah told MiD DAY.
