While Gambhir gets set to tie the knot, MiD DAY comes up with some wedding-related anecdotes
Gautam Gambhir can consider himself lucky for getting permission to skip a T20 International against England at Eden Gardens on October 29 to tie the knot with Natasha Jain. Earlier, getting leave from international commitments to get married wasn't easy.

In 1983-84, Wellington player Tony Pigott was drafted into the England side at the eleventh hour for the Christchurch Test. Pigott, who was due to get married, had to postpone his wedding.u00a0USA's renowned statistician Dave Wilson narrated an interesting tale about Richie Benaud. "Benaud was due to get married, but got hit by the ball.
He had bandages on his head during the wedding but never missed a game," Wilson said before adding, "Sir Don Bradman agreed to tour the US, so that he could combine it with his honeymoon." South African pacer Andre Nel was not relieved from his duties before the completion of Day Two of the Centurion Test against West Indies in January 2004. "Nel could only leave after the day's play ended early due to bad light.
"He had arranged for a helicopter and whisked off for his wedding in Benoni," said cricket historian Kersi Meher-Homji from Sydney. "The next morning, Nel was back, having a go at the West Indies batsmen with persistent pace. He finished with 64-3 and 64-2 in the match. South Africa won by 10 wickets and with it the series 3-0," he added.
However, with cricket being played almost round the year, one cannot expect modern-age cricketers like Gambhir to find time for marriage.
