Former selector Sambaran impressed by Rahane

He came, he saw, he conquered. Mumbai's Ajinkya Rahane, who missed the first Ranji Trophy match of the season due to an injury, took no time to get back to the rhythm of scoring runs.

Rahane slammed 110 to help defending champions Mumbai put on 287 for four on Day One of the Ranji Trophy Super League match against Bengal at Eden Gardens yesterday. So impressed was former national selector Sambaran Banerjee, who watched Rahane's knock, that he recommended the Mumbai lad for a Test berth. "I would have definitely selected him in India's Test squad if I were on the national selection panel right now," Banerjee told MiD DAY.

Rahane, 20, scored his 15th first-class century. "I play my own game. I aim to fulfill my role in the team," said Rahane.
