According to The Sun, England's lynchpin all-rounder intends to sacrifice five-day cricket to try to ensure his fitness for 50-over and Twenty20 international matches.
The 31-year-old hero of 2005 has fallen prey to a catalogue of injuries which have kept him off the field for protracted periods since his starring role when England regained the Ashes for the first time in a generation four years ago.
Flintoff has to prove he is fit for the Lord's Test beginning tomorrow against Australia, having aggravated a knee injury during the first match of this summer's series at Cardiff.
He fears he can no longer expect his body to withstand the rigours of Tests as well as one-day international and Twenty20 cricket.
Flintoff, who has had most problems with his left ankle on which he has had three operations since 2005, had his most recent bout of surgery - only three months ago - on the right knee he hurt again last week.
