"We all know what an exciting talent Jake Fraser-McGurk is": Marsh

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh stated that the young players who represented Australia will return to the squads in the future. In the absence of key bowlers, Australia named a revamped playing XI during the three-match T20I series against England. The series ended in a draw. Xavier Bartlett, Aaron Hardie, Cooper Connolly, and Jake Fraser-McGurk were handed an opportunity to make an impression on the international stage. Each player had their moment to cherish, especially young top-order batter Fraser-McGurk. After his underwhelming string of performances against Scotland, the 22-year-old was dropped from the first T20I. Returning to the side for the second T20I, Jake Fraser-McGurk showcased his prowess by batting at number three. With this, he became the second youngest batsman to register a T20I half-century for Australia after former opening batsman David Warner. "We all know what an exciting talent Jake Fraser-McGurk is. We gave people different roles throughout, and it's been exciting. We've got a few guys who will come back in at some stage. It's amazing to see young guys playing for Australia," Marsh added. The three-match series ended 1-1 after rain washed away an entire match. Liam Livingstone was adjudged Player of the Series on the back of his staggering all-round show. He ended the series as the leading run-getter and joint-highest wicket-taker. While relying on his impactful stroke play, the 31-year-old garnered 124 runs at an average of 62.00. After the T20I, the Aussies will lock horns with the "Three Lions" for the five-match ODI series, with the first match set to be played at Trent Bridge. Marsh is looking forward to the five-match affair and said, "It would have been nice to finish with a match today. Both teams have played really good cricket throughout and moving on to the ODI now. Touring England as an Australian team is always fun, and we still have a few weeks to go." (With ANI Inputs)

The series will also mark the return of India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. He will return to Test cricket after nearly 20 months after his horrific car crash. Along with Rishabh Pant, there are two more wicketkeeper-batsmen added to the squad, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel. Sarfaraz Khan has also been named in the side after his stunning Test debut against England, earlier in the year. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the bowling attack who will be shouldered by Mohammed Siraj. "He's greatest to play the game": Lyon opens up on playing in Warne's shadow

Australia's Test specialist spinner Nathan Lyon opened up about playing under the shadow of the late Shane Warne. In his career spanning from 1992 to 2007, Shane Warne showcased his prowess with the ball and achieved many records. Having played 145 matches, he is the leading wicket-taker for Australia with 708 wickets in Test cricket. After Shane Warne ended his career in 2007, four years later, Nathan Lyon made his debut in 2011. Since then, he has been an integral part of Australia's bowling attack. Despite enjoying a successful outing with the red ball for more than a decade, Lyon still sometimes feels that he is in Warne's shadow. Also Read: Tests: Active Team India bowlers with the most wickets against Bangladesh "I still feel in the shadow of Shane Warne now, and I'm 129 Test matches in with 530 wickets. The thing is, I'm happy with that, and I'm comfortable with that now. A lot of us felt the pressure of Shane Warne's shadow, and it probably took me a good five, six, or seven years to understand that pressure is a privilege. And if you've got pressure, you're ok, you're doing ok; enjoy it," Lyon told Sky Sports Cricket. With 530 wickets in 129 matches, Lyon is the third-highest wicket-taker for Australia in the Test format. At 36, there have been debates about whether he could dethrone Warne from the helm. But for Lyon, he feels that he won't be able to replicate what Warne did in his illustrious career. "I'm never going to be able to do what Warnie did. Warnie's once-in-a-generation, he's the greatest to play the game in my opinion, and all I want to do is make my family proud, and make Shane Warne proud, and just go out there and compete," Lyon added. Nathan Lyon is 34 wickets shy from overtaking Glenn McGrath to become the second-leading wicket-taker for Australia in Test cricket. Nathan Lyon will be eager to get closer to the remarkable feat. He is likely to return to Test cricket action for Australia in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, kicking off on November 22 in Perth. (With ANI Inputs)

A decent crowd was expected at the Old Trafford but not a lot reached the stadium as it started as a pretty dank and damp day in Manchester and things remained the same till the evening when the game was eventually called off. How partners in rhyme Mulani, Kotian plotted win over Iyer’s India ‘D’

Mumbai’s spin-bowling all-rounders Shams Mulani (3-117) and Tanush Kotian (4-73) picked seven wickets together to help India ‘A’ beat India ‘D’ by 186 runs in the Duleep Trophy second-round match at Anantapur on Sunday. Left-arm spinner Mulani scored 89 and stitched an invaluable 91-run seventh wicket partnership with Kotian (53) when their India ‘A’ were struggling at 144-6 in the first innings. He credited Kotian for his valuable contribution. “Whenever we have played for Mumbai, we have taken wickets in partnerships, and also contributed runs [with the bat]. We always communicate well with each other and I think that has been the key to our good performance as we shared our experiences throughout this game,” Mulani told mid-day on Sunday.     Mulani accounted for three crucial India ‘D’ wickets — skipper Shreyas Iyer (41), Sanju Samson (40) and Devdutt Padikkal (1) on Sunday. He explained how he worked out the dismissal of his Mumbai teammate Iyer. “We know each other’s game quite well as we have been playing together since childhood. Considering his [Iyer] aggressive nature, I was just trying to vary my line and length. He tried to play the pull off the back foot, missed my arm ball and got clean bowled,” said Mulani. Also Read: Shubman Gill likely to be rested for Bangladesh's T20I series “I had a hamstring issue during the off season, there were a lot of ups and downs. This was my first match after recovery, so it’s good to start the season on a winning note and also make crucial contributions to the team’s win,” Mulani explained. Chasing 488 was a tough task for Iyer’s team. However, one-drop Ricky Bhui (113) showed some resistance before Kotian dismissed him, caught by Riyan Parag at first slip. “We were in a tough situation in the first innings and then Shams and I performed well with both bat and ball to help our team win. So, it feels good,” said Kotian, adding that the victory also holds them in good stead for the upcoming Irani Cup tie between Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai and Rest of India, starting on October 1 in Lucknow.  “Some of India’s top players are part of this Duleep Trophy campaign so to give our best against them has helped boost our confidence. I have understood better how to bat and bowl against quality players. We will try to carry this confidence into the Irani Cup,” Kotian concluded. Brief scoresIndia ‘A’ 290 & 380-3d beat India ‘D’ 183 & 301 (R Bhui 113, S Iyer 41, S Samson 40; T Kotian 4-73, S Mulani 3-117) by 186 runs

Travis Head

"I don’t feel like they’re my favourites. I just feel like we play them enough"

Australia’s left-handed opener Travis Head said playing against India is extremely difficult to play, and that it’s been nice for him to fare well in the matches against the Rohit Sharma-led side across formats. In 2023, Head played an instrumental role in Australia’s wins at the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final by slamming centuries against India at London and Ahmedabad respectively. Also Read: Formula 2: India's Kush Maini survives terrifying collision, faces post-race penalty In this year’s T20 World Cup Super Eight game, Head slammed a blistering 76 off 43 while chasing 206, but his dismissal to Jasprit Bumrah ensured Australia fell short by 24 runs to India. “I don’t feel like they’re my favourites. I just feel like we play them enough, play them lots. I guess the last couple of years I’ve been in nice form. So being able to play well, it’s always nice. I guess it’s not hard to get up for the contest. It’s hugely competitive. It’s easier to get up for the game. So I wouldn’t say they’re my favourites,” said Head to Star Sports. The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will see India and Australia play Test matches in Perth, Adelaide (pink-ball match), Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney from November 22 to January 7.  “They’re extremely difficult, but it’s been nice to play well in a couple of games and looking forward to preparing well and being ready to go,” Head added.
