Bangladesh beat New Zealand by five wickets in their ICC Champions Trophy game here last night, chasing 266 for a win.
Bangladesh's heroes were Mahmudullah (102 not out) and veteran Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 114. They put on 224 for the fifth wicket.
The Asian team's win was nothing short of amazing since they lost their first four wickets for just 33, Earlier, the Kiwis were held to a total of 265 for eight by Bangladesh after winning the toss in their must-win Group 'A' match. Ross Taylor top-scored with 63 and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson made 57.
But once the pair was out in quick succession after a third-wicket stand of 83, the innings slumped. Off-spinner Mossadek Hossain (three for 13) and paceman Taskin Ahmed (two for 43) justified their respective recalls with impressive returns. Both teams needed to win to keep their semis hopes alive.
