CCI have no chance of hosting first and final IPL tie, insists Modi

IT is game on at Brabourne as the Cricket Club of India (CCI) members unanimously voted in favour of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mukesh Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians ties to be played at the club, at an Open House meeting held at the All Rounder club restaurant yesterday evening.

The Mumbai Indians would play seven matches at CCI for which they will pay the club Rs 15 lakh per match.

A triumphant club president Badal Mittal did say that even the opening and final match of the IPL may be held at Brabourne if the IPL was willing to re-negotiate with the club taking a cue from the Mumbai Indians and the positive development.

"But, we would ask for more money for that,' he said with a smile.

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi though said over the telephone, "No, there is no time now for fresh negotiations.

We would need more seats on the earlier terms that were proposed, so I do not see the opening match or the IPL final being held at the Brabourne Stadium."

Final in Nerul
That honour will stay with the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul which hosted last year's final between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

The mood yesterday at the CCI was totally upbeat. The cash-rich club would earn approximately Rs 1 crore and 5 lakh from the matches and the work on the club's ground begins today.u00a0
