Mumbai batting greats Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar inaugurated an India-England exhibition called Cricket Connects yesterday. The exhibition was first held in the United Kingdom during the last Champions Trophy and will now be open to Indian cricket enthusiasts at the Nehru Science Centre in Worli till December 21 to mark the India-UK Year of Culture.

"I have a lot of memories of playing against England. Despite the fact I didn't get too many runs there, I had one very good season [1980] playing county cricket for Somerset. It was really a memorable one. That particular experience changed my perspective about the game to a great extent. Till then, I was not a professional cricketer, but having played one season of county cricket gave me an insight on how professional cricketers play. It was a great experience which helped me tremendously during the rest of my cricketing career," Gavaskar said.

Meanwhile, Vengsarkar
expressed confidence over the success of the Indian team on their forthcoming tour of South Africa next year. He also felt that the Virat Kohli-led side will give a good account of themselves on the 2018 England tour. Vengsarkar knows what it takes to succeed in England. He is the only overseas batsman to hit three consecutive centuries at Lord's. That apart, his century in 1986 at the spiritual home of cricket helped India win their maiden Test at the London venue. And he was chief selector when Rahul Dravid's team beat hosts England to win the 2007 Test series. "India are led by a world-class cricketer like Virat who is in good form. We have excellent players in the squad and I am sure they will do extremely well," said Vengsarkar.
