Sakshi Malik Retirement: Sakshi Malik breaks down and quits wrestling, know why

Following months of wrestlers’ protests against the then Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Sanjay Singh, aide of Brij Bhushan, was elected as the new president on Dec 21. Meanwhile, the protesting wrestlers were extremely unhappy with the appointment of the new chief. Expressing displeasure over his appointment, Indian wrestler Sakshee Malik broke down and declared ‘quitting’ from wrestling. On being asked about Sakshee Malik retirement from the gamer, Brij Bhushan Singh said he had nothing to do with it. Notably, the wrestlers have been protesting against the former WFI chief since months over sexual harassment allegations.

 Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik, who has been part of the protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations, today (June 10) said that protesting wrestlers will participate in the Asian Games only after their issues get resolved. The wrestler also added that they are going through a difficult time, which no one will understand. She also appealed the media to not spread false news and asserted that Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and she are still in this fight together.

Anurag Thakur assures probe against Brij Bhushan, sets 15 June as the deadline

Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur held a press conference in New Delhi on June 07 where he informed about meeting with protesting wrestlers.  While addressing the press meet, he said that he had a six-hour-long discussion with the wrestlers where he assured them of the completion of the probe against the WFI chief by June 15 and that the WFI election will be done by June 30.

Wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshee Malikkh, visited Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s residence on June 07 for a meeting. Earlier, the Union Minister through a tweet said that the Centre is willing to hold talks with the protesting wrestlers. Sakshee Malikkh, while speaking about the meet said that the proposal given by the government will be discussed with our seniors and supporters and then the decision will be taken. Commenting on the same, Mahavir Singh Phogat said that the Centre did not keep their previous promise but it’s good they are willing to have a discussion.

Malikhh resumes railway duty, dismisses rumors of withdrawing from protests

Sakshi Malik on Monday denied withdrawing from the ongoing wrestlers' protest against -WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She has joined back her position in the Northern Railway. The development comes two days after the wrestlers met Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. The meeting was held late on Saturday as the wrestlers raised their demand for WFI chief Brij Bhushan’s arrest. Satyawrat Kadian, the husband Sakshi Malik, said the wrestlers’ meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah held on Saturday was inconclusive. Bajrang Punia, another wrestler protesting in solidarity with Sakshi Malik, who has also reportedly resumed his Railway duty, also tweeted about this.
