After facing the worst of coronavirus during the first and second waves, India has now administered over 120.96 crore of Covid-19 vaccine doses, claimed Union Health Ministry. On November 26, more than 65 lakh vaccine doses were administered till 7 pm. However, with a new heavily mutant novel coronavirus variant B.1.1.529 reported in South Africa, Hong Kong and Botswana triggering alarms in India, the country's top health experts have urged for stringent surveillance at the government level. After facing the worst of Covid-19 during the first and second waves, Mumbai crossed the milestone of vaccinating over 1.5 crore people on November 9. As per the BMC, a total of 1,50,67,883 doses, including the first and the second doses, have been administered so far in the city. The Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation (BMC) planned an exclusive vaccination session on Monday for women across all civic, state and central government-run centres. The BMC has administered over 1.21 crore vaccine doses to the citizens, out of which only 42 per cent were given to women whereas the remaining 57 per cent vaccine doses have been taken by men in Mumbai. On September 17, India created a new record as it vaccinated over two crore citizens in the country. The cumulative doses administered in the country reached 2,00,41,136 at 5.10 pm, according to data on the Co-WIN portal. On Saturday, Mumbai became the first district in the country to administer one crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The vaccination drive in Mumbai district is being carried out at 507 sites. Out of these, 325 are government centres, while 182 are under private hospitals.
