Bringing a much needed relief to the commuters in Mumbai, Mumbai Metro 3 Phase 1 started its services on October 7. Connecting BKC(Bandra Kurla Complex) to Aarey, this metro service has come as a big relief to the commuters travelling on the western line. Developed at a cost of 32,000 crores, this is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro. In this first phase - around 12 km stretch has been inaugurated between Aarey Colony and BKC. In the subsequent phase - this stretch will be total of around 33 kms between Colaba - Arey and Seepz. This is known to be one of the most challenging projects for the authorities. There has been a significant upgrade in Mumbai’s infrastructure in the recent times and a brand new RO-RO ferry survive is the latest addition. A new Vasai-Bhayandar Ro-Ro ferry service will be running on a regular basis from 21st February between Vasai and Bhayandar that is going to cut down the commute time between the two destinations to 15 minutes. This is the second RoRo service in the MMR. The first one operates on the Ferry Wharf and Mandwa route. The newly-inaugurated service will ply eight times a day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth on February 12 witnessed the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, and also RuPay card services in Mauritius, via video conferencing. The launch will enable the availability of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as for Mauritian nationals travelling to India. The extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will enable Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius and facilitate usage of RuPay Card for settlements both in India and Mauritius.
