A 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted early Tuesday morning i.e on 25th of February inside a bus parked at the Swargate Bus Stand in Pune, just 100 meters from a police station. The assault occurred between 5:45 AM and 6:30 AM.

Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey said, "...The Pune incident has shaken the entire Maharashtra...We are living in modern times but such barbarism is happening in these times. Govt and those responsible for law & order are responsible for this. People swear by the law & order in Maharashtra...The manner in which crime has increased in Pune is very unfortunate...After 48 hours, Govt is appreciating itself that it has nabbed the accused...What is the guarantee that he acted alone? It is possible that there is a gang behind this...Locals say that buses remain parked there and incident happen on those buses everyday. This incident has come to light, several others might not have. Govt must dismantle this entire gang. We demand Devendra Fadnavis to hang the guilty and also have an investigation...Law & order of entire Maharashtra is collapsing..." Congress National Spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil saidd, "Such incidents, happening again and again, reveal the failure of government. A fake encounter was done in Badlapur case, High Court also made an observation...It is a failure of the government that it is unable to provide security to women..."

The assault occurred between 5:45 AM and 6:30 AM. The suspect, identified as Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, was captured on CCTV footage, but he remains on the run. Pune City Police have formed 13 teams to locate and arrest him. Eight teams from the Crime Branch and five from Swargate Police Station are working to track down the accused. Some teams have also been sent outside the district to assist in the search. The police took immediate action, filing a complaint and securing the CCTV footage, which helped to kickstart the investigation. Authorities are also looking into how the bus depot management allowed such an incident to take place within their premises. In response to the attack, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vasant More, along with other party members, organized a protest at the Swargate Bus Stand, demanding justice for the victim.
27 February,2025 12:18 PM ISTA court in Kolkata has sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Anirban Das, delivered the verdict on Monday, also imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 on Roy. Roy was found guilty of the crime, which occurred on August 9, 2024. The victim, a postgraduate trainee at the hospital, was found dead in the seminar hall of the hospital. Roy, a former civic volunteer, was arrested the following day, August 10, 2024, after the discovery of the body. The court convicted Roy under Sections 64, 66, and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Despite the conviction, Roy maintained his innocence during the trial, claiming he had been framed and suggesting the involvement of an IPS officer in the case. In addition to the life sentence, the court also ordered the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 17 lakh to the family of the deceased doctor. The case sparked nationwide protests, with junior doctors suspending their services in several cities across the country to demand justice. Roy's family has stated that they will not challenge the court's decision and will accept whatever punishment he receives.

He said that Roy deserved the harshest punishment for his crime. The victim’s father explained that Roy tried to speak in court on Saturday, but the court asked him to wait until Monday. He said they didn't know what Roy would say, but emphasized that Roy was a criminal. The father also mentioned that there might be others involved with him in the crime, but he insisted that Roy should face the strictest penalty for his actions.

After 5 months of long investigations, additional District Judge of Sealdah Court found accused Sanjay Roy ‘guilty’ in the gruesome rape-murder case on January 18. The court said BNS Sections 64,66, 103/1 have been framed against the accused Sanjay Roy and the quantum will be given on January 20. The complaint said that the accused entered the seminar room at the Medical College where he assaulted and murdered a resting lady doctor. However, ‘convict’ Sanjay Roy denied the allegations and dropped hints about the alleged involvement of an IPS officer. The judge informed that further hearing of the accused will be on Jan 20 and his punishment will also be declared that day.

Body of a minor girl allegedly raped in South 24 Parganas was found in canal on October 05. Her aunt said, “The body (of the girl) has several injuries on the body, limbs have been broken.
